Some of you may recall my ill-fated Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG ‘Overland’ back in 2017; a wild V8-powered cross-continental Affalterbach barge that ultimately met with a watery end. Work has taken over the past few years, but recently I’ve felt the yearning to return to off-road-ifying inappropriate cars and documenting my misadventures - enter the MX5. I bought this 165,000 mile ‘06 NC 2.0 on a whim, from a little garage outside Oxford six months ago for £2,200.
I figured it - might - make it through the summer, but 10,000 miles and a couple of continental road trips later, it’s still going strong. Therefore, the only logical next step was to shove a set of Amazon specials on the front and take it green landing around the farm - terrible ideas have since ensued.
